Turn N' Burn for the Cure barrel race set for September

The 5th annual Relay For Life barrel race will be Sept. 15 and 16, at the Yuma County Fairgrounds in Yuma Colo. The weekend will have several different events for the barrel racers and spectators alike.

On Sept. 15, barrel racers can come to the arena from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., for exhibition runs before the races begin. At 5 p.m., the races will start with the youth 3D followed by the open 4D. The open 4D will have $500 added money. Entries will open at 1:30 p.m.

A fun event that has always been a part of this weekend is the Triple Sprint Race. Three barrel racers make up a team, donate $30 (for the open teams) or $15 (for the youth teams) to the Relay For Life Organization, and run for great awards. The barrel racers must run both days to be eligible for the awards. There will be an auction at 4:30 p.m., Sept. 15 of all the teams with all the proceeds donated to the Relay for Life. There are great prizes for the top bidders as well so come on out and buy a team.

Events Sept. 16, begin with a church service in the grandstands at 8:30 a.m. Following church will be exhibitions from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m, and then the youth 3D starts at 10:30 a.m., followed by the open 4D. The open 4D will have $500 added money. Entries open at 9 a.m.

Not only are there great awards for the Triple Sprint Race but there will also be a target time saddle for a barrel racers in the open 4D to win. Again, the racers must run both days in order to run for the saddle and all the fees collected from this event will be donated as well.

Entry fees for the youth races are $15, for the open races $35, and for the target time saddle the fee is $10 per horse. There is a processing fee of $10 per day or $15 for the weekend per rider. Stalls and RV hook-ups are available. There will also be concessions on the grounds with part of the proceeds being donated to the Relay as well.

This event would not be possible without the help of some really great sponsors. The sponsors we have at this time are the following and we want to thank them for their support: Bushner Farms, Ace Quality Farm & Ranch, ALD Automotive, The Feed Bunk, CHS, Korf Continental, NE Acct. & Tax, Scott Aviation, Bonanza Ford, Schepler Acct., Schnee Qtr.
