Saddle up and ride with AQHA this summer

School is out and summer is almost here, and for many that means time on the trails with their American Quarter Horse. With warmer weather and vacation time, riding provides a great way to relax and be outdoors. The American Quarter Horse Association provides many opportunities for members to enjoy their horses this summer.

AQHA's Ride program hosts nearly 100 rides around the world each year. You can enjoy horseback riding, breathtaking scenery, fellowship with other riders, games, food and more. In addition to having an enjoyable time, you also get the satisfaction of helping benefit the American Quarter Horse Foundation and local charities. If you attend the greatest number of rides this season, you will win a Tex Tan saddle. Finding a Ride near you is easy. Visit http://www.aqha.com/recreation/ride/index.html.

Another option to help you stay in the saddle this summer is the Horseback Riding Program. You can ride in the arena, on the trail or down the road to log hours and win prizes. This program rewards you for doing what you love best. Learn more or enroll in the program at http://www.aqha.com/recreation/horseback/index.html.

If you crave competition, AQHA can provide that as well. AQHA-sanctioned shows are taking place around the world, and they provide divisions for all levels from novice and youth to professional. If you prefer an open or 4-H show close to home, you may still be able to earn AQHA points in approved classes. For a list of shows in your area, visit http://www.aqha.com/showing. Don't forget your AQHA Regional Experience! It's just another way to enjoy fun competition and learn from professionals during the summer months. Visit http://www.aqha.com/association/experience/index.html for the schedule.

Summer riding brings fun and enjoyment, but AQHA wants to remind everyone to keep safety in mind when heading out on the trail or to a show. To help you stay safe while enjoying your American Quarter Horse, follow some simple safety rules developed by the Certified Horsemanship Association, an alliance partner of AQHA. Visit http://www.aqha.com/recreation/ride/index.html#c for these suggestions.

Be safe and enjoy the summer with your American Quarter Horse.
